The Phorusrhacids or colloquially known as Terror Birds, are extinct large carnivorous flightless birds in South America during the Cenozoic era. These birds disappeared about 2.5 million years ago.
After a meteor wiped out the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Velociraptor, these terror birds rose to become the top predator in South America. Their supremacy lasted for about 60 million years. These birds considered to be the descendants of the T-Rex.
They ranged in height from 1–3 metres (3.3–9.8 ft) tall, run as fast as ostrich with legs that could snap a femur of a large cow!
Researchers have found evidences that concerns the extinction of the terror birds. For a long time, scientists believed that the primary reason for the birds’ extinction was the impact of severe climate change. If these creatures existed up to this day, its possible that humans will never exist.
